We are a small business, so we understand the needs of small businesses. Our training is geared at providing immediately useful tools, skills and resources to help other small businesses to manage their health and safety risks better and to prepare for emergency and disaster events better. We are a Registered Service Provider with the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) Regional Business Partners Network and provide quality training focussed on business capability building.
England and Company strives to deliver positive change to our customers. We believe that in our “World of change” we should all do our part in embracing change and making it a positive thing. The Company was founded to help other businesses become better prepared for the future and respond well to adversity. We believe that our success should be measured by how many people we can influence to have a more positive outlook on the future, not by how much money we have made in the last financial year!
The founder and Principal staff member of England and Company Ltd is Kevin England. We have a broad range of connections to call upon for additional expertise for individual projects.
Kevin has a diverse history with hazard and risk management. With over 10 years experience in the natural resources industry, Kevin has gained a thorough working knowledge of health and safety risk management as well as operational, economic and reputational risk management in some of the most demanding locations on Earth.
Kevin has been involved with offshore oil and gas drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, Scottish North Sea, and the Grand Banks of Newfoundland (where the Titanic sank!) as well as land based locations in Cuba, USA and northern Canada. In 2007, Kevin moved to New Zealand to take up employment at Stockton opencast coal mine. Additionally, Kevin has worked in rock-fall and landslide risk management, disaster damage assessment, safety systems development and risk assessment.
Recreationally, Kevin has been at the forefront of the whitewater kayaking world for over two decades. His experiences of risk and dangerous activity management in this arena inspired him to design and manufacture a range of innovative safety equipment for this sport. As owner / operator of this small business he developed many skills and insights, whilst also producing what many believe to be the World’s safest personal flotation devices for whitewater kayaking. In 2014 these designs and the manufacturing were taken over by an American manufacturer.
In 2010, Kevin formalised his risk management experience by gaining a Masters Degree (1st Class Hons) in Hazard and Disaster Management from the University of Canterbury. Since then, he has been actively involved in the Canterbury Earthquake and Kaikoura Earthquake recovery efforts through his work with EQC. He was also the course developer and principal tutor for Tai Poutini Polytechnic’s Level 6 Diploma in Emergency Management, where he retains a role as guest speaker.Kev’s LinkedIn profile
