We present the main points of the Health and Safety at Work Act, highlighting the changes from the old HSE Act; ensuring that the terminology and concepts are easy to grasp and understand. The main focus of this training is how to use the risk management process to identify, analyse and evaluate your workplace health and safety risks. We use examples of everyday risk activities to illustrate the fact that humans are all really good at this already!
We give particular attention to smaller businesses, who may not have any existing health and safety documentation and provide a “roadmap” for you to quickly get up to speed with modern H&S practices and requirements of the Law, so that you can spend your valuable time on the practical aspects of improving your health and safety performance…and minimise the time you have to spend away from your core business of providing products and services to your customers.
It’s designed for any business or organisation that is trying to improve their health and safety performance and comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act. You will learn the requirements of the HSWA and how to:
1. Identify hazards at your workplace
2. Assess these hazards for the harm they could cause
3. Assess the likelihood of that harm occurring
4. Assign risk levels and then prioritise Health and Safety risk issues
5. Cost effectively control the risks
6. Ensure that these controls are effective and fit for purpose
You’ll also learn how to engage your workforce to participate in H+S risk management activities.
One of the main differences between the old HSE Act and the new HSW Act is the shift from hazard management to Risk Management. This training session will get you familiar with the terminology, methods, and required documentation used in workplace risk management. You’ll learn about migrating from using a “Hazard Register” to using a “Risk Register” and why this is important to your business.
Each training attendee will receive a detailed workbook covering all the aspects of the training, with additional guidance on the new Law; including easy-to-follow advice on writing an effective (and compliant) Health and Safety Management System. We provide user-friendly templates so that you can avoid that sinking feeling of “I don’t even know where to start…”. Our off-the shelf templates are easy to modify for your own businesses purposes and will provide you with a solid head-start on implementing your Health and Safety Risk Management System.
The training is based on the Health and Safety at Work Act, 2015 and AS/NZS 31000:2009 Risk Management Standard.
Cost is $290 (+GST).
Recommendations from past attendees
Brooke Green, H+S Officer, Mike Greer Homes, Greymouth.
I attended this half day training yesterday. I was lucky enough to have learnt a huge amount of information from the course only a day before having an induction night with over 25 of our sub contractors.I was able to use a lot of info that I learnt from Kevin and pass it on. He made The Health and Safety documentation easy to understand and easy to teach going forward. Kevin was also very clever! He gave us a flash drive with templates and information regarding the documents he had just taught us. Would recommend to all – new to H&S, he will make it look like a piece of cake.
