Paparoa Great Walk
England and Co provided a preliminary geological hazard risk assessment of New Zealand's 10th Great Walk. Traversing through mountainous terrain in the northern West Coast area numerous landslips and other geological hazards are common-place. We assessed the proposed route prior to construction in order to give the client (DOC) risk-based advice on geological hazards during construction and estimate the future risk profile.
We also provided guidance during construction to ensure the track meets the standards of a New Zealand Great Walk.
Canterbury earthquake sequence
Working within the land damage assessment team (LDAT) we provided assessment and remediation advice to the Earthquake Commission.
During the sequence of damaging aftershocks, we worked to give accurate guidance on liquefaction damage, rockfall and cliff collapse, landslips, land cracking and all other earthquake induced land damage.
In the initial response to the massive Kaikoura Earthquake we helped remove rockfall hazard from State Highway 73, Kaikoura inland route. In the recovery phase after this earthquake we assessed land damage as far north as Otaki on the Kapiti Coast, and as far south as Greymouth on the West Coast.
Prospector 1 risk assessment
We helped a new drilling company to establish a risk framework to operate their drill rig, Prospector 1, in a safe and efficient manner. We facilitated a five day broad brush risk assessment covering all aspects of maintaining, moving, setting up and using this small rotary drill rig, which was then used for research drilling for the Deep Fault Drilling Project.
Health and safety risk management training
Through our work with West Reap, the rural education and activities program, we delivered much needed training on health and safety risk management to remote communities in South Westland.
Site assessment for hut construction
Preliminary site assessment for a new private hut in the Mataketake Range, Westland. The hut location required an assessment of earthquake effects and site soil conditions.
Fox and Franz Heliservices
We helped a local Helicopter Operator to improve their Health and Safety performance through a series of workshops and training events for staff and contractors.
Fox and Franz Heliservices are one of New Zealand's largest Helicopter operators and do scenic, recreational and commercial flights.
