Up to 35% of businesses never re-open after a disaster event. This one-day workshop is designed to get your business started with the process of preparing for the inevitable, yet unexpected events that may otherwise cause severe disruptions to normal business and ensure that your business is not one of those who never re-open their doors.
It provides guidance in the following areas:
1. Disaster risk reduction-The structured process of identifying, analysing, evaluating and treating risks with the intention of reducing the levels of risk that your business is exposed to. Course attendees will be able to assess risks, create and manage a risk register and make risk-based decisions on selection of mitigation options
2. Emergency response planning-Ensuring the immediate safety of your employees, customers and the general public at your place of business in the event of an emergency. Course attendees will be able to manage the emergency planning process and develop effective plans to ensure your business is as prepared as possible for emergencies
3. Business continuity planning-These simple, practical actions will help your business to recover quickly after a disaster event and identify any opportunities for growth as a result of a disaster. The importance of adaptive capacity and methods to improve this are presented. Course attendees will leave the workshop with the solid beginnings of their own business continuity plan
Workshop attendees will receive a disaster resilience resource toolkit, which contains ready-to-use templates, along with guidance in the use of these templates, to ensure a fast and easy introduction to the processes used to help your business become more resilient to disasters. Attendees will leave the workshop with the required skills and tools to be able to evaluate risks, plan and develop systems to mitigate these risks, and continually improve these systems over time.
It is expected that workshop attendees will gain a basic understanding of the legislative requirements of workplace emergency planning under the HSW Act, 2015 as well as the best practice procedures for ensuring effective and expedient business recovery after disaster events.
It is also expected that attendees will be able to establish effective plans within a few days of the workshop.
One day, 8:30am-5pm
